If you’ve read our story on the new features in Unity 5.6, you will already be aware of this, but we think it bears repeating: you can now download the popular Unity add-on TextMesh Pro for free.
Advanced text formatting for Unity users
The tool, which was previously sold for $95, and which Unity Technologies has just acquired from original creator Digital Native Studios, provides a fully featured replacement for Unity’s own UI text and text mesh.
It supports more advanced text formatting and layout, with control over character, line and paragraph spacing; kerning; justified text; hyperlinks; and includes over 30 rich text tags.
It was shortlisted for the 2016 Unity Awards in the Editor Extensions/Utilities category.
Now free from the Unity Asset Store
According to Unity Technologies, the technology will be integrated natively into Unity in future releases, but for now, you can grab the latest build of TextMesh Pro free from the Unity Asset Store.
